De Meervaart is a theater and congress center in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. In 1966, there was an initiative to send first proposals for the development of a leisure center in the developing garden town of Osdorp. The center has been in operation since 1977 and is named after the Meer en Vaart Street on which it is situated. Initially, it was run by volunteers. In 1981, the governance came to the district of Osdorp. There were also live television shows at the period, such as Sonja's good news show.
